Let’s talk sizes.

No, bigger is not always better, and we can’t enter the planner size discussion with the sole mentality of go big or go home. The size of the planner you choose is entirely up to you and what you plan to use it for. Maybe you want a planner you can throw in your purse, or perhaps you are looking for a planner that offers more writing space. Depending on the purpose and function you will be using the planner for, will determine what size you will need.

In this post, I will only talk about the most popular planner options because, frankly, we could go on for days talking about all the sizes out there. DAYS I TELL YA!

Planner Sizes: Small, Medium & Large

Planners come in all shapes and sizes, and no two planners are the same. So, how do you know which planner size is right for you? Let’s define some planner sizing options to give you a general idea.

Small | A Personal Companion

This size is ideal for on-the-go planning. With it’s compact size, this planner is perfect to throw into your purse/ or tote bag. Many planner babes and dudes will use this size for taking with them to track appointments, carry grocery lists, take quick notes, and more! This compact size is your perfect personal planner!

Common Sizes: 3.15″ x 4.72″ , 3.74″ x 6.7″ ,  4.5” x 7”

Medium | The Classic Mid-Size

Medium planners are probably the most common size planners you will find. This size is perfect for students to throw in their backpacks, moms and dads to throw in their work bags, or using it as a catch-all planner. Often times, this planner size is a go-to because it’s the perfect mid-size, not too big and not too small. It often comes in various layouts, so options are more abundant in this size.

Common Sizes: 5.75″ x 8.25″ , 6.3″ x  8.46″ , 7″ x 9″ ,  7” x 9.25”

Large | Go Big or Go Home

Big planners are often the size of a standard US Letter page. These planners are awesome for memory planning since they offer the most amount of space for journaling and pasting in photos. This size is also commonly used as a work or home planner. The awesome thing about big planners is, since it is often the size of printer paper, there is no sizing down to add anything to it. Perfect for keeping it on the desk at home or in the office, the big planner size offers big space, big memories, and big plans.

Common Sizes: 8.5” x 11” , 8.27” x 11.69” , 9″ x 11″

Common Planners in this size: Big Happy Planner, Classic Passion Planners, Composition Planners

Planner Sizes I Use

I have a variety of planner sizes in my collection, but the majority of my planners range in the medium size category. I have a few in the small category and only one big sized planner. I really love the medium size for many reasons, to include the manageable size, portability with the addition of ample space, and the available accessories for this very popular size.

Although I maintain most of my planning in medium sized planners, I do like the extreme portability of my smaller sized planners, such as my Mini Happy Planner and my Traveler’s Notebook by Carpe Diem Planners.

When it comes to planners, remember that you are not stuck to just one planner. So, if you bought a big planner and would prefer something smaller, that’s totally okay! You can move to a different planner at any time, so you don’t have to feel like you are stuck!
